The full story of the Hassel vineyard in Hattenheim? That would be a long tale to tell. What matters is that Riesling has thrived here – on the deep loess-loam soils – for centuries. The soil excels at retaining both heat and moisture, and the vineyard is sheltered from the wind. That is precisely why the wines from here are robust and juicy, with excellent aging potential.
The skilled winemakers at Weingut Georg Müller Stiftung harvested the grapes by hand. They allowed them to macerate for 6 to 10 hours before pressing them gently and slowly. The wine then underwent a spontaneous fermentation without added yeasts and matured on its fine lees until June 2024.
Feel free to let it age for a few more years in your home archives. However, if you wish to enjoy it now, reach for a large glass or a narrow-necked carafe and give it time to open up.
