Cork is fantastic, no question about that. Thanks to its porous structure it allows the wine to breathe and ripen which is something your archival wines will truly appreciate. It is elastic at the same time and, if in contact with wine, it expands accordingly. It may sound idyllic but…

According to experts, cork can last up to 30 years. Some claim that even 50 years is possible. Of course, it all depends on each cork and the production method of it. The older the bottle gets the less elastic the cork becomes, it may even become deformed. More air gets into the bottle, wine can oxidise, and evaporate. And nobody wants that!

This is why wine experts turn to recork their wine. The process starts with carefully opening the bottle followed by tasting its contents to make sure that no loss of quality occurred. If all is well the bottle is topped up with the same wine from the same year. Thanks to recorking wine can remain in perfect condition and ripen further for many more years.

Experts from Château Valtice take care of the professional recorking of these wines and subsequently give them a certificate of recorking. This way you, the customer, always know what your wine has been up to!

  • What does the wine actually look like?

You can view all the wines in the 360-degree photographs that are provided for each of them. These are authentic photographs. When the bottles are have been stored in varying conditions all of them are photographed and you can choose from among them.
