When winemakers have done their work honestly, you’ll know. And with Jan Vaněk’s wines you’ll taste it in the first sip.

He takes care of the vineyards himself, and he isn’t in any hurry. Each year, he produces only 30 thousand bottles of wine that’s distinctive and pampered to perfection.
a
Our sommelier Jan Pánek selected three especially successful archival wines for this tasting set. The Sauvignon Blanc 2018 will fascinate you with the scent of currants and gooseberries. The Rhine Riesling 2008 will win you over with its floral aroma, and the Wallachian Riesling 2009 will impress you with its tones of tropical fruit. While the Rieslings underwent spontaneous fermentation, the Sauvignon’s fermentation was managed by noble yeast.

Archiving helped the wines’ flavors concentrate and the tastes have blended. So you’ll be tasting them in their most delicious possible form.

“The wines from Vaněk show that even Moravian production has great archiving potential. In this tasting set you’ll compare two varieties of wine and different methods of vinification from the same winery. A wonderful taste experience for connoisseurs as well as the ordinary lover of good wines.”
Jan Pánek, sommelier and founder of Via Tempia

What can you expect in this wine tasting set?

Rhine Riesling 2008, late harvest, Vaněk winery (dry white wine)

Mr. Vaněk recalls this Riesling fondly: “The ’08 Rhine Riesling was made by my dad. I know for sure that it was fermented spontaneously in wooden barrels.”

The care devoted by Mr. Vaněk senior is reflected in the wine’s glorious, light taste. You’ll recognize honeyed undertones in its floral aroma. Years of archiving caused the flavors to blend and combine, and today they stand out beautifully with fish or poultry.

Wallachian Riesling 2009, late harvest, Vaněk winery (dry white wine)

There will never be another wine like this one. The 2009 vintage comes from the last Riesling grapes that Mr. Vaněk harvested in the “croft vineyard” before he replaced the vines with another variety. Treat yourself to a bottle of this exceptional wine, while we still have it.

Raisins, honey, and at the same time an endless freshness. The spontaneously fermented Wallachian Riesling will enchant you with its full, varied taste, which is further enhanced by archiving. In the aroma you’ll detect tropical fruit, gooseberries, and currents, as well as walnuts and meadow flowers.

The Wallachian Riesling 2009 is excellent with charcuterie, paté, and fish.

Sauvignon Blanc 2018, Vaněk winery (dry white wine)

The town of Vrbovec is located in the southernmost part of Moravia. Here, you’ll find the vineyards of St. Urban, which is where this aromatic Sauvignon Blanc hails from. A dry white wine with a magnificent green-gold color. Currants, gooseberries, and peaches will surprise you in the aroma. Its taste is full, fruity, and lightly spiced with a mineral finish.

Mr. Vaněk himself recommends this Sauvignon Blanc with lighter poultry dishes, vegetable salads, or fish.
